We sometimes read and fail to look at the context.

This makes us really stupid.

Reading outside of context is like driving without a steering wheel.

Reading without taking into account the context deceives the pregnable mind.

As heirs in the kingdom of our Father we inherit many, many good gifts, a place of belonging, an sure identity, unmeasurable wealth, perfect heath, security, but also dominion authority. All of this can be summarized as “every good gift and every perfect gift”, just as James wrote in the first couple of verses of his epistle.

 … and good gifts are good gifts!

But what if gifts are, in fact, more and better than what we are generally taught?

To answer this question we have to do a little language and translation exploration. Fancy that!

So, let’s get on with it.

I pray

I pray today

Lord, thank You that even though I thought I found You and gave my heart to You, You found me first and not only gave me Your heart, but all of You.

Thank You Yah’shua that when I thought I gave You my life, You had already given me Yours, completely and unreservedly and that I now stand sanctified and washed in your presence.

Thank You Spirit of God that when I first heard Your voice, You reminded me that it was always there.

I write a lot about the ekklēsia, the word that was so terribly and wrongfully translated from the Greek into the English as church. Look at this post for instance.

During the week my wife and I were confronted time and again with people (wonderful people of God) who claimed that their church (their doctrinal system and pastor) was the right church with the right doctrine and the right pastor. Whatever their pastor or minister of their church said, is what they base their whole outlook on life upon. Wow!

I find it difficult sometimes to follow the logic of some preachers laying out scripture as if they do not have the Holy Spirit to guide them.

The law preacher will always find law in the Bible, even if there is none. But don’t you dare talk about the grace of God! That will be blaspheme, for sure!

Now it gets up close and personal

There is a way to determine how close and personal a relationship is in everyday life.

This very same way also shows the desire for further advancement and intimacy, and it paves the way forward.

To be or not to be ... that is the question

I remember years ago I attended a church gathering at one of the institutional churches that I used to go to. John 1:12 was cited. A theological and religious explanation was given ... and everyone was either confused or misguided.

I was mind-boggled at that. I remember the minister trying to explain that the God-given power we had received, was in fact not the full power of God, but rather a delegated sort of power.

But he was so wrong.

Healing - distance, delay and matters of control

The other day my daughter asked me to pray for her. She had stomach cramps, pains and something that resembled severe stomach spasms.

And I was reminded

As I prayed against all these things, cancelling the plans of the enemy, commanding the sickness and pain to go, and confirming the finished work of Yah’shua over her physical body, I was yet again reminded of how that we have this precious gift of healing inside of us and how that we often neglect to use it.

I was once again reminded how the institutional church teaches the bride of Christ that God is far, that He is on His own time schedule and that He is always in control. So, we must just accept whatever we get. Their favourite saying is “His time is not our time” and “His ways are not our ways”.

God rolls up His sleeve

I heard a very interesting conversation over a local radio station recently as I was driving home. It was all about God rolling up His sleeve and baring His arm ... picture it!

It comes from a new song by one of my favourite artists, Toby Mac. And he really produced a very catchy tune with interesting lyrics ... if you understand the context ...

... and shamefully some people out there don't ...

Some opinions sprout from a life spend in the religious corridors of the institutional church, triggered by a new hit like this.

As I said, the words in the song are biblical ... but you have to know the context before you go on telling people that God is getting ready to zap them!

Your worth on the building plan

This post has much to do with the person we are and grow up to be and less with who we might blame for our shortcomings and circumstances. And the author is actually Paul in 1Collosians 3:1-23 and not me ...
