Goodness of God

In this post I want to do nothing more than to share to myself (and you), the lyrics of one of my all-time favourite worships songs by Bethel Music. It is sung by Jenn Johnson as part of the Victory album released in 2019. The song was written by Ed Cash, Ben Fielding, Jason Ingram, Brian Johnson and Jenn Johnson.

And the name of the song is “Goodness of God”.

It is a Grace song that flies in the face of traditional doctrine and religion alike.

Although I would rather have started the song with “You love me Lord” and further into the song I would have changed “I am surrendered now” to “You are surrendered now”, “with my life laid down” to “with Your life laid down” and “I give you everything” replaced with “You gave me everything”, the song is one of the greatest in history in worshiping God’s Goodness.

It talks about the “faithfulness of God” opposed to me having to be faithful.

It talks about Father God as a friend as opposed to me having to try and win His favour. 

It talks about Him running after me, instead of me having to stay on the treadmill of religion and chasing after good behavior, keeping to the rules of the law and jumping through the hoops of religion.

It talks about the Goodness of God as opposed to the traditional religious picture of an angry God, ready to smite you at any opportunity. 

It sings about the goodness of God as opposed to me having to abide by industrial church rules and statutes and recipes in order to attain His favour.
