The accomplished Word and Perfect Liberty

I am sure that you have heard many sermons on the last words of Jesus before He gave up his life.

"(It is) FINISHED"

This word had been greatly dissected and explained and interpreted and reinterpreted over and over again.

Why is it so important?

What did Jesus say?

Let's get the context first

... Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished (Greek root word: teleō), that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished (teleō): and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. Joh 19:28-30

Commonly the preacher will tell you that Jesus proclaiming tetelestai (teleō) pertains to both His accomplishment of redemption as well as His full payment of our sin debt.

Tetelestai comes from the verb teleo. It literally means: "to bring to an end, to complete, to accomplish."

Something is being completed?

It signifies the conclusive end to a particular course of action.

The word itself is noteworthy in the perfect tense in Greek, which is important because the perfect tense speaks of an action which has been completed in the past and with results still in place in present times and times to come.

Now that we know what the word means ... what did Jesus say?

What is finished?

Our redemption?

Our sin-debt?

Our sickness?

Our adversity?

All of these and more?

What?

Note that the first Adam, before the fall, had no need for redemption, a sin-debt to be ransomed, healing, prosperous living, blessings, etc. He had it all.

He was fully in the original plan and design of God.

Enters Choice

Yet, Adam chooses to do his own righteousness ... to know good from evil.

And so, after the fall things changed because of the choice of Adam (and Eve) to know evil in addition to the good they already knew (this is called law).

After the fall people could no longer effectively rule over this evil end the evil appears to have been ruling over mankind because of their choice (evil mixed with Good; law mixed with Grace - Babylon).

Even at mount Sinai mankind chose law above relationship. This evil (own works of good) ruled mankind. And it still does ... unless one chooses Jesus who is and was and forever will be the only One to have ruled and conquered evil by fulfilling the law.

Jesus is the end of the law!

Interestingly the Word of God also explains the Word of God.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil (plēroō: to make full; to make replete, to level up; to furnish; to completely satisfy, to execute; to verify; to accomplish; to fulfil, etc. See Strongs). For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (ginomai: to cause to be; to become). Mat 5:17-18

The law blotted out on the cross?

Yes!

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; Col 2:14

When Jesus uttered the word FINISHED He proclaimed the end of the law system. He declared that that which stood between us and our heavenly Father, the works of own-doing by following the law was done to completion and we do not have to have any part of that.

What is FINISHED?

Jesus declared the ordinances by which we are accused either by ourselves or others, to be finished. It was accomplished and made obsolete once and for all.

The law of ordinances that was against us!

The very tool by which we know evil from Good!

The rules that were contrary to us!

How do we know this?

Your position as heir in the Kingdom of God is a tell-sign-proof.

You no longer have to take what the enemy hands out.

Your position has been restored. You can now take up your position, your authority in Christ and curse sickness, weakness, adversity, poverty, lack, inferiority ... and see the goodness and provision of Abba manifest before your very eyes!

Go ye therefore ...

Take up your God-given authority and speak up against the plans of the devil.

What happened to the law?

It was blotted out by Jesus fulfilling it for you and me.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Rom 10:4

We have only one law now.

It is called: THE LAW OF PERFECT LIBERTY! Jas 1:25

THE LAW OF LIBERTY has a name. His name is Jesus!
