I was asked by Charelene to read 2 John 1 during the week and the Holy Spirit just reminded me of the awesome truths tucked away allover in the Word of God … hidden everywhere in plain sight, just for us to discover.
2 John reminds me so much of another scripture that is close to my heart - "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Psa 16:11
But in 2 John, John is writing to a Christian woman and her children (the body of Christ and its members) and emphasizes the Truth (Jesus).
Let' see. (I've emphasized some words for purposes of this post)

For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. Favour be with you, mercy, and peace, from Yahushua the Messiah the Father, and from the Master Yahushua the Messiah, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 2 John 1:2-3
No uncertainty here. He talks about Jesus!
John goes on to proclaim his gladness that her sons are walking by the Truth, by the commandment received from the Father - that Commandment that existed from the beginning and which is not new, as one may be tempted to think!

What commandment?
The Commandment that was from the beginning is not the 10 commandments!
In the beginning was the Word [the Truth, Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word [the Truth, Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
Remember the voice of the Father on the mount of transfiguration when Peter wanted to build huts for Elijah (the prophets), Moses (the law) and Jesus? Instead and as the others were taken away, Abba said:
This is my beloved Son (His Word, The Truth), in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Mat 17:5
... and remember our previous post when Jesus said:
Hearken [akouō] unto me every one of you, and understand: Mar 7:14
The Word is His Commandment
So, it is easy to understand that the commandment is to receive (lambano) the Commandment - Jesus!
Walk in the Commandment - Walk in Jesus. Walk in Truth Himself. Walk in Grace Himself, the Word Who stooped down!
So, what is the Commandment the we should join ourselves to?
His Name is Jesus and His whole being is explained in no uncertain terms by John in verse 3 stating : Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

It has always been like this
What John says here is exactly how Abba Abba explained who He is talking to Moses all those years ago: And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth Exo 34:6
John continues in 2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine [didachē - teacher or teaching. The word of is not in the original] of the Messiah, hath not Elohim. He that abideth in the doctrine of the Messiah, he hath both the Father and the Son.
Note the word "doctrine" translated here. John makes a serious point … but law preachers would immediately grab hold of this to show how that you should abide by the 10 commandments instead.
Who is this Teacher?
Jesus is the Teacher, the Messiah!
This is the Good News! This is the Gospel that Truth, Jesus came in the flesh to put and end to all works of the flesh. It is the Gospel purifying man so completely that it is now possible for Him to indwell man in the flesh by His Spirit!

WoW!
Truely, in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore!
