Or, do we need to rest?
Jesus says in Revelation 3:15 onto the church of Laodicea:
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot." I've heard many teachings saying that we will only be hot once we do more for the kingdom ... when we pray every day ... pray more ... read more ... attend more ... Laodiceans [Laodicea - justice of the people - those walking in works of own righteousness instead of the imputed righteousness given to us by Jesus]
Because they can only be either for or against Him. No middle-way.
By doing more things to become, they were not walking in victory. In this way they were denying the cross and the resurrection and indwelling of His Spirit. They knew about Him, His salvation, they prayed, we fasted, they read and sat in the pew, but that is about as far they went.
The heavy burden of striving like this made them weary and tired and fed-up!
Jesus does not say in this passage that they needed to work more ... do more ... become more ...
What then?
Jesus says that what they were doing, the way Laodiceans lived and ruled in this world, the way they applied the free Gift (the finished work and authority to rule) He gave IS COLD AND LUKE AND WRONG and that this is the reason why they were living as defeated Christians, why they did not live a victorious life! That is why they were wretched and poor and blind and miserable and naked ...
This makes Him want to vomit! (from the original Greek) Verse 16
They need to rest in His Victory!
How?
That's the think about Jesus. He is not condemning, but encouraging them!
They must learn to live in His victory.
This can only be done by proclaiming the finished work of Christ on the cross, refusing to back-off!
Speaking it out into the open.
It is Finished!
Refusing to back-off and let sickness prevail!
Refusing to back-off and accept poverty!
Refusing to back-off and allow crisis to destroy!
... relationship troubles to carry on!
... set-back to have its way!
... affliction to have its way!
... speaking the Word of God against these! Not backing off! Fighting lie with Truth! Striking with the Sword from your mouth! HalleluYah!
Is it what we thinketh and so we are?
The self justified, brainwashed Christian is made to believe that all, whether good or bad is God's will
The lukewarm state allows sitting back, allowing the enemy to reign in our own lukewarm state. In contrast, we were made, instead, to rule.
Did Jesus not overcome the things we should be refusing to accept in our lives?
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1Jn 5:4-5
We are told by Jesus how to rule
Did Jesus not tell us to speak to the mountain?
The Word is powerful and strong! It is how God created. It is how the Word (Jesus) healed. Heaven and earth will pass away, but Jesus' words shall never pass away! Mat 2:35
We have inherited this authority and the same Power Who raised Jesus from the dead lives inside us! The Sword has been handed over ...
It is finished!
... and stop our unbelief
He would never ... be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. Isa 54:9-10
We can apply His love and goodness and peace and mercy freely! The Sword is in our hands ...
And when the accuser, the liar comes with his weapons of deception and destruction, we can and should come against him with the full force of the Word.
No weapon that is formed against us shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against us in judgment we shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of the LORD. Isa 54:17
Why?
Our righteousness is of Him. Not ourselves! Not as Laodiceans [self-obtained justification]!
We are heirs!
The Sword to reign is from Him!
We speak the Word of truth with THAT authority!
The authority that Jesus gave when He said that:
Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. Mat 21:21
I have Good News for us Laodiceans!
What's to do?
Let's apply our Faith, our Gift!
Let's walk as heirs in the kingdom. It is our inheritance!
Let's speak to our mountains! Let's speak the Word!
There is no way that we can ever remain in a lukewarm state if we receive Grace!
For those receiving the Gift, there is only smoldering, blazing hot!
Boiling HOT!
All praise to Jesus!
